Jump Starter Battery

First, let’s go over the main reasons why you should own a portable jump starter:

1.A jump starter is portable. Just keep the starter in the trunk.

2.A starter pack gives you peace of mind when your car battery is weak or dead.

3.You can boost your battery yourself without the need of another vehicle.

4.A starter pack also provides portable 12-volt power to charge or run other devices like a laptop or cell phone.

5.No need to worry about damaging the other vehicle, or your own if you are helping someone.

The challenge with portable jump starters is that you don’t need it until you need it, so often they will be stowed in the trunk of a car until the car won’t start. The jump starter is retrieved and turned on, often completely dead itself from lack of use!

The main thing that usually needs replacement is the battery itself. These units usually contain a lead acid battery with a finite lifespan. It is possible and simple to replace it, but you need the right replacement.

If the battery has discharged past the point where it can be charged, you need to either replace the jump starter, or replace the battery. A quality replacement battery will allow you to get more years of service from the jump starter you already own.

How to Replace the Battery in a Portable Jump Starter

Find a jump starter replacement battery that matches the size and specs (volts and amps) of your current battery. Once you have it, remove the cover of the portable jump starter. Most models have screws that need to be removed to get to the battery. Note how the old battery is connected, disconnect it and connect the new battery the same way. Replace the cover, and check that the new battery is charged and ready. If not, charge it, then replace it in the trunk of your car.

How to Maintain your Jump Starter Battery

Jump starters rely on a battery as their power source. As a result, they must be periodically recharged. Always recharge your portable jump starter/battery booster pack after each use and at least once every 3 months. The jump starter battery will lose their charge more quickly if left in the car during hot and cold weather. We recommend charging your battery booster packs before going on a long trip.

WARNING: Jump starting a car can be very dangerous. If you are not 100% certain what you are doing, call roadside assistance or a towing service. And always read your owner’s manual first!
