How To Reduce Energy Consumption, Battery Usage and Save The Planet?

Remember these three key words:
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!

Perhaps, you are already aware that there’s a direct connection between your energy use and the environment. The more you consume, the more of an impact you have on the climate and ecosystems. When you consume less power, you reduce the amount of toxic fumes released by power plants, conserve the earth’s natural resources and protect ecosystems from destruction. By taking steps to reduce your energy intake, you’ll contribute to a healthier and happier world.

REDUCE

Here are three basic and easy to follow steps to reduce energy consumption:

1. Shutdown your computer – computers are some of the biggest energy users in office buildings. Opting to shut down in the end of the day over using a screensaver does not affect your computer's lifespan. So power down! (If you have to keep it turned on, you can at least turn your monitor off at night.)

2. Choose the right light – An average household dedicates about 5% of its energy budget to lighting. By replacing your home's five most frequently used light fixtures or bulbs with models that have earned the Energy Star (halogen incandescent, CFL or LED lightbulbs), you can save a lot. Also make sure you turn off the lights when you do not need them!

3. Cut the phantom power: unplug idle electronics – devices likeTV, DVD players, scanners, printers and microwaves use standby power when they are turned off but still plugged in to a power outlet. Generally speaking, the biggest phantom power consumers include any device with a remote control. A useful tip: to avoid paying for this "phantom power", use a power strip to turn all devices off at once.

You can also work on battery usage reduction. If you use, maintain, charge and store your batteries properly, you will definitely extend their life and will buy new ones less often.

REUSE

One thing you can easily start with is stop buying single use batteries and replace them with rechargeable ones. For most high drain electronic devices, like digital cameras, rechargeable batteries will continue to work much longer than alkaline batteries. In fact, in devices like digital cameras, NiMH batteries will run on a single charge for 3-4 times as long as they would on an alkaline battery. Switching to recyclable rechargeable batteries will help reduce waste and protect environment.

RECYCLE

Last but not least – RECYCLE! Recycle as much as you can! Look for the recycled option in all the products you buy. Recycling is a great way to help protect the environment. Cities and communities are taking initiatives to reduce their impact on the environment by recycling batteries. Batteries that are recycled are taken apart and some parts will be recovered and used to make new batteries. Do not let batteries end up being incinerated with household waste, as this can cause air pollution.

We at ReplaceUPSBattery.com, strive to protect the environment, reduce waste and preserve natural resources by offering a battery-recycling program. This is a cost-effective solution for businesses, government organizations and households across the US that gives you the opportunity to dispose of the old batteries the right way and brings you discounts for future purchases!

Alternatively, you can collect your dead batteries and other recyclable items, like cellphones, and drop them off at a recycling center near you.
